On 13 September 2013, the Road Infrastructure Agency hosted a meeting of the Committee for Monitoring of the Construction of Struma Motorway. The meeting was attended by experts of the Road Infrastructure Agency and OP “Transport”, representatives of the municipalities on the territory of which construction work will take place, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations, including representatives of Transparency International – Bulgaria, which is carrying out monitoring of the public procurement procedure for design and construction of Lot 2.
During the meeting information regarding the phases of work of the infrastructure project was provided. The main focus was put on the plans for construction of Lot 3 of Struma Motorway, as well as to the progress in the activities prior to the beginning of the construction work on Lot 2.
With regard to the work on Lot 1, the project manager of the construction of the section announced that all work activities have been completed within the set deadline (30 August 2013).
Regarding the construction of Lot 2, the project manager from the Road Infrastructure Agency answered to questions by Transparency International – Bulgaria. At present there are no changes in the activities as laid out in the public procurement contract. The only change can be attributed to the creation of an updated activity schedule, which would have to reflect the specific seasonal conditions, and is directly related to the obtaining of construction permit.
Currently the contractor is completing the design of the motorway section; the final version of the technical project is expected to be presented by 25 September, 2013. Forthcoming is a meeting of the project experts with the aim to develop an updated work schedule (tailored to the specific seasonal activities), before the commencement of the construction works.
WIth regard to Lot 3, Mr. Assen Antov, head of the National Company “Strategic Infrastructural Projects” presented information with regard to the progress of work to date.
